Ball of Foot Pain (or Metatarsalgia)

Bruised feeling in the ball of foot, burning sensation, pain over the whole area of the metatarsal joints. Pain may be experienced  when applying pressure to the ball of the foot…if the pain is in one specific area localised pain it is usually known as  Morton’s Neuroma.

As the foot pronates excessively, rolls inwards or arch collapses, over time the ligaments and soft tissues weaken resulting in muscle and ligament stretching.

As excessive pronation is experienced the metatarsal joints drop and rotate resulting in pain and discomfort due to the loss of natural protection on the ball of the foot.  Over time the foot may experience nerve damage or develop calluses as a protective mechanism.

Pedistep® orthotics re-align and lift the metatarsal heads by raising and realigning the 2nd, 3rd & 4th metatarsal bones to their normal position, using an in-built Triangular stabilizing Shaft to correctly position the metatarsal bone and maintain this position.

Control of excess pronation by using Pedistep® orthotics prevents dropping and shearing of the joints in the ball of the foot.

Balancing and distributing the weight over the five (5) metatarsal bones helps to remove excess weight & friction, a common cause of callous formation and the burning sensation experienced in the ball of the foot.
